Course Information
This
basic first aid course is specifically aimed at members of the public who
want to know what to do when faced with a medical emergency involving people
of all ages. It is suitable for young

accompanied by a responsible adult member of the family or guardian).
It
involves 3 hours of tuition and includes an element of assessment (i.e. no
formal examination). No previous first aid experience is required.
Topics covered include:
Ø Role of the first aider, principles of first aid, equipment and
prevention of cross-infection.
Ø Assessments of situation and casualty
Ø Airway, breathing and circulation assessment
Ø Recovery Position and treatment of unconscious casualties
Ø Basic life support (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation – CPR)
Ø Choking
Ø Treatment of severe bleeding and shock
As the name suggest, this
is a ‘basics’ course and as such does not cover the requirements for
workplace first aid (such as FAW or EFAW). People attending the course will
however receive a handbook and attendance certificate
